Can you smoke weed in Thailand? Is now a hotspot for cannabis tourism—but what’s the deal when it comes to lighting up in your hotel or Airbnb? This guide breaks down the current laws, property rights, risks, and how you can enjoy weed responsibly and legally while visiting the Land of Smiles.
In June 2022, cannabis was decriminalized in Thailand.
In June 2025, regulations were updated: cannabis flower is considered a controlled herb.
Smoking in public remains prohibited due to nuisance laws.
Only licensed clinics or sellers can provide cannabis with a doctor’s prescription.
Recreational use remains a grey area in private settings.
The law allows cannabis use in private places where it does not disturb others.
A “private place” can include:
✔️ Your own home
✔️ A private room in a guesthouse
✔️ Airbnb room (depending on host rules)
❌ Shared dorms, balconies, or common hotel areas
Most hotels in Thailand are non-smoking, including cannabis.
Even if the law allows it privately, hotels have their own policies.
